April 15, 2013 – Butuan City
The 17th Annual Regional Convention of GEP Regional Division 13 opened today at Samping Avenue, Butuan City. Attended by more than 70 GE practitioners the convention was graced by Land Management Service (LMS) Regional Director Paquito R. Rosal. He did not read his prepared speech but spoke articulately on new policies and updates affecting the GE profession specially those transacting with DENR. He took notice the Geodetic Engineers Oath and drew parallelism with his profession as a lawyer. Emphasizing honesty and integrity he joked that both profession attracts negative impression to clients when expertise on the field becomes an issue between landowners or local government units. In closing he praised the organization for its unity and fellowship in advancing the objectives of the association as well as enhancing technical competence and interests of members.

The convention was also graced by dignitaries from the National Board of Governors, notably Engr. Jojo Nonan who represented National President Jimmy Francinilla, Engr. Esmelda Blanco – adviser on Mindanao affairs and Past President Afredo Antonio. Regional President Virgilio Soliman opened the convention with the theme “Caraga GE’s Meeting the Challenges of Global Competitivess”. Chapter presidents introduced the participants from their respective provinces.

Various technical sessions were discussed by invited speakers among them Rev. Nolan Lloren, Engr. Alfredo Antonio, CSC Director Adams D Torres, Arch John Paul Velasco and Engr. Bert Recamunda. GEP Updates will also be given by Board of Governor Jojo Nonan.

The second day will be highlighted by a plenary session to discuss issues and concerns affecting the Regional Division. Chapter Presidents take pride in reporting their activities for the year. Election and proclamation of the new set officers will also be held before the formal closing of programs.
